Billbo, I am a retired IT professional. In the past I have maintained email servers. There are many ways that spam (unwanted emails that generally advertise shady products) can be attributed to you. I have fought this battle many times for users of my email servers. Generally it means that someone has obtained or guessed your email password and is using your account to send out spam. The first thing that I would do is to change my email password. You will still be on the spam lists but the person that hijacked you email account can no longer send out spam.

ok hayseed i`ll change my email password. thanks
Hayseed, you were an IT pro, eh? Cool. I currently run my own IT consulting business since 2008. Before that I worked at various IT consulting companies, since about 1999.

I think what is more likely to be going on here is that the IP address currently assigned to billbo's internet equipment is a dynamic IP address that was, at some time in the past, assigned to someone else. That other person probably signed onto that forum and posted spam messages. The forum administrator banned the IP address as well as kicking the user off.

Now that IP address has shifted to billbo, and he is unable to sign onto that forum for that reason.

billbo, you might try this:
1. Go to myIPaddress.com: What is my IP address? How do I find my IP address?. That web page will tell you what your IP address is right now. Write it down.
2. Unplug whatever internet connection device you got from your provider. It might be a modem, or a router, or whatever. Leave it off for about 15 minutes, and then turn it back on again.
3. Go back to myIPaddress.com: What is my IP address? How do I find my IP address? and see if your IP address is now different than it was when you started.

If the IP address stays the same, then maybe try again, leaving your equipment powered off for a few hours while you're off running errands or something.
If the IP address changes, go ahead and try signing up at the other forum again, and see if you fare any better this time.

Scoundrel, I agree that your scenario is also a high probability. In my area, we are besieged almost daily with phishing scams that try to trick you into voluntarily giving up your userid and password. They are getting more sophisticated with multiple steps that seem almost real. My sister almost fell for one last week and thought better about halfway through the process and called me. I will send you a PM about IT.
Yeah, the identity theft guys are getting scary.
Yesterday one of my customers received a welcome email from a legitimate company that sells emergency food supplies (doomsday prep stuff), indicating that he had set up an account using his work email address.

But he didn't do it.

We changed his password and at my suggestion he pulled credit reports from all three bureaus. Fortunately nothing else was amiss. We called the vendor and had the account removed.
I got banned for telling them about tires I liked for my RZR. They claimed I was selling or advertising for a non forum vendor (Amazon).

Oh well.
Sounds like a great place to not belong to.
We encourage people to buy from our supporting vendors, but if Amazon's got a better price, well, that's the way it is.
If someone set up an Amazon account to sell product, and then came here posting links to it without becoming a supporting vendor, well, that would be different.
Or if someone was in the employment of an Amazon seller, setting up forum accounts and posting links to that Amazon product, that's bad too, and we can usually tell when that's going on.
But just your average rider recommending a product, making no money from doing so, is just fine. I've done it more than a few times myself.
Ya this was more like...."FYI hey guys with Warn winches, Amazon has the wireless remote kits for 70% off. "

I was shocked.
Joined that forum when I first got my Ace.There is more information on Ace Forum.net in one day that the other has in 6 months!!!!!!!!! No one ever post anything useful.....Now check it maybe once a week or two.
No one ever post anything useful...
They're probably afraid of getting banned!

No, seriously, I have seen too many forums where the admins/moderators have such bad attitudes that conversations are narrowly focused to reflect the admins' attitudes, and posts get deleted left and right when they don't agree with the admin opinions. Forums are for people to exchange ideas, learn things, help each other, promote the sport, etc - not to be an admin's personal little kingdom.
