Todays mission was to make up a retainer for my newly fitted harness. Cost wise, only a few bucks for the material (webbing, velcroe, and a couple of metal buckles), plus about 1 hour on the sewing machine.

That's a great idea! Never thought of this before welding small hoops to keep belts in place. Downside to harness in the ACE, is top of seat is just too wide to keep shoulder straps in place.
Would have preferred the cleaner look of a retainer, nice work guys!

I haven't installed a harness in mine yet, but I've been thinking about it, and I was wondering why you can't just cross them?

For safety. During a hard impact, last thing you want are belts smashing through top of seat & possibly breaking your neck.

For the best protection you want the belts pulling as straight as possible over the shoulders. May take very high speed impact to rip off top of seat, but either way I'd never trust crossed belts.
