I have 890 miles 95% rocky desert, Ive notice a squeak in the upper part of the steering column. I hit it with some chain lube which helped a bit but while working the lube in, I notice that there is grinding inside the column. Guess I'm off to the dealer to see if they cover it under warranty. I wouldn't think steering your unit would be abuse. Anyone else have a squeaky steering wheel?

It's a bushing in the column. You can feel it up high in the column.

I would think a lighter lube would be better. Perhaps just motor oil followed by a light squirt of WD40 might help.
I think modern chain lube penetrates very well and then thickens so it will stay. But a bushing is toast I'm sure. To confirm I put a blanket over the steering box and floor board and the squeak was still as loud as ever.

Instead of taking the ACE to the dealer I thought I'd have a go at pulling the wheel off and see what I could see. While removing the steering wheel a bunch of pea size gravel and parts of a larger stone which must have been stuck behind the steering column fell to the floor board, problem solved. I don't know how debris would get up there but it did.
