Tire Size

Does anyone have any experience with 27" tires on an Ace. I am looking at putting 14" wheels and either 26" or 27" tires. Polaris dealer is recommending Roctane tires in either 26' or 27'. I have ridden a Greybeard's Ace with 14" wheels and 26" tires and it seemed a bit stiffer ride than the original equipment tires and wheels. I was told by my Polaris dealer that going to 27" tires would make the ride softer. I know that it also depends on the tires, number of plies, tread etc. Just trying to get a ride that is about the same as original equipment but with bigger, wider tires.

You are bang on when you say the ride seems stiffer. A 12inch tire has more sidewall to flex than a 14. Even with a larger tire you will generally have less/stiffer sidewall.
27" vampires on my sons ace with 12" wheels. Very good ride and no clearance issues

Here is my ace with 14's and 3 inch offset wheels and 2 inch spacers and the ride is not as smooth as the original tires but the ace will go everywhere that my S will and it's very stable on uneven surfaces . We flipped it after 2 days of ownership.
Jraeky,I like the looks with the wide stance. I assume these are 27" tires? What brand are they?
Motogrip at tires , 26 9 14 on the front , 26 11 14 on rear . Sorry for late response , working a lot of overtime.
3 inch offset diesel wheels
I am lost when it comes to tire/wheel geometry and trying to figure out what will work. I've been thinking about getting different tires. Would like some that are good for lots of terrain types, mud, sand, rock, wooded trails. Big enough to gain any more ground clearance but not cause any fitment issues. What combinations have worked well on the Ace? I'm not worried about different wheels, but not opposed to buying new ones if a different offset would help.
Fjen, so far the tire and wheel package seems to work other than taking a razor knife and trimming about a inch at the very bottom of the flare.

My suggestion: If you don't beat the crap out of your rig like I do, stick with the stock wheels for now. If you want more ground clearance, go with 27" tires. It will rob a bit of low end power for quick starts, but the ACE will handle it. If you're not drag racing or doing jackrabbit starts all day you won't notice. If you're not sure, then go with 26" ones. Stay with the stock width. If you want a bit less mud all over your rig, then go with 8" tires all round instead of 8" in front and 10" in back. Yes, it will reduce traction a little. But the ACE isn't going to win any mud bogging or dune climbing contests anyway.
Dgandy -Hey, do you have any pics of your boy's Ace with Vampires on it? What size is he running? My wife finally wants some tires she can mud ride with. I have been after her to do some changes but she likes to ride it the way it is...until this last weekend. She got stuck a few times and now wants some tires..lol. I think Vampires or something like it would look pretty good and help her claw through the thick stuff.
Hey guys, does anyone have any pics of their Ace with some aggressive mud type tires? Like the Vampires or Mega Mayhems? I looking for something that works decent in the mud. Thanks!
27" vampire. Go with 4 front wheels cause my wider offset rears stickout more and cause way more mess! Also fender flares help a lot. They appear to be sold of the 27" vampires for $59 but the original TSL/ATV is comparible.

Thanks for the pics. Is the offset of your rims different from stock? Heck it looks like you could go with 28" Vampires. There is a lot of space for the looks of it. From what I was reading, the 27" Vamps measure out at 26.2" Do you like how they perform? Any vids of the lil Ace going through the mud? The second picture you posted looks like the last time we were out! Looks like fun!
Hey Dgandy, how do you buy them? I couldn't see a place to add them or a cart? Thanks for the link!

With 26x9x12" Bighorns which measured to 26 1/4, I was _almost_ rubbing the front fender on the inside at hard lock. 27" would rub.
But I guess HighLifter makes some control arms that shift the wheel a couple inches forward and that allows for some much bigger tires. also helps with ground clearance. I intend to get a set when I get the 570.

I believe you have to call them for their 'blem' specials.
Yeah I found it, I emailed them for more information. Thanks
I just got a set of 27" mega mayhems on 14" msa wheels. I also have a 2" lift kit. Do I need the lift or not? Is it overkill? I'm in south louisiana with lots of mud.
I'm not much of a mudder, but in my limited experience with mud, the more ground clearance you have the better, so you don't get high centered.
the ACE is pretty low to the ground compared to ATVs with independent rear suspension.
Unless you're talking about swampy bayou stuff where it's all soft, deep pools of muddy water, in which case I'm not sure it's as important.
This is one of the places I ride down here. Obviously I exercise common sense and I don't go as deep as some of these guys, but this will give you an idea of what I ride in.
